You may have read the old legend of the Cherokee tribe where a granddad wanted to teach his grandson about life.

There is a fight that is going inside of me.  It is a ferrous fight between two wolves,” said the granddad

“Tell me more granddad who are these wolves, what is it all about? ” asked the grandson.

“Well, the fight is between these two wolves.  One is the evil wolf, he is fear anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.  The second wolf on the other hand is the good wolf, he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.  Now the same fight is going on inside you and every other person too.”

The grandson was listening intently and then he asked, “Which one will win?”

The elderly Cherokee replied, “The one you feed.”

The granddad went on to explain to the grandson this battle of evil and good is always going on within ourselves and sometimes the good wolf wins and we are nurturing positive qualities and sometimes bad wolf wins which is when we are indulging in negativity.   The key is not to loose balance because when we loose our equilibrium it is difficult to gain momentum again.    It is in our hands which wolf we feed.  It is easy to get into a spiral of negativity because it takes courage to heal and feed the good wolf.  These are choices we must all make to walk towards the light of positivity leaving behind the darkness of negativity.  Please note that it is not about eradicating the negativity in our life because that is not possible, rather learning techniques to live with what we have and not being affected by it.

How does Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Matrix Reimprinting work?

This Cherokee legend is a good way to explain it how EFT and Matrix Reimprinting works with emotions and wellbeing .  With EFT you are acknowledging the negative emotions you are going through to bring it to the surface.  This is accompanied with tapping on meridian points to and break free the blockage which is causing the negativity.  Towards the end of the session when the emotive response is negligible we finish with positive affirmations.

Bach Flower Remedies

In a similar manner the 38 Bach Flower Remedies correspond to different human emotions.  By realizing which negative emotions are most salient at the current moment in time we select the remedies to bring about the positive emotion we are lacking.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a practice which helps you be in the present moment.  By focusing on the present it helps to dispel any other thoughts and emotions can cause distress. So it is not a matter of eliminating them rather detaching from them with awareness.  The techniques I use are based on acceptance commitment therapy, compassionate mind training and mindfulness based cognitive therapy.  Thich Nhat Hanh explains to us “Fear keeps us focused on the past or worried about the future. If we can acknowledge our fear, we can realize that right now we are okay. Right now, today, we are still alive, and our bodies are working marvelously. Our eyes can still see the beautiful sky. Our ears can still hear the voices of our loved ones.”
